Expedition San Pedrillo Wild

Overnight tour: 2 days and 1 night

Join this unique two-day, one-night adventure in Corcovado National Park, one of Costa Rica’s greatest natural treasures. This tour will take you through paradise beaches, primary forests, waterfalls, and challenging trails… Get to know one of the most biodiverse areas in the world!

Day 1:

We depart from the main beach of Bahía Drake at 6:00 am by boat to Corcovado. The tour begins with a landing on a beautiful, pristine beach, and then we head into the jungle for a hike of approximately 18 km on irregular trails. San Pedrillo is known for being one of the wildest areas of Corcovado, featuring a primary forest that is up to 5000 years old. As one of the most intense places on the planet, you will feel the presence of nature at its fullest. As you walk along the trails, surrounded by giant trees, we will use all of our senses to try to locate the animals that live here. What’s magical about San Pedrillo is that it is totally unpredictable… Let yourself be surprised by the mystery of Pachamama! Along the way, you’ll discover the San Pedrillo Waterfall, and we will stop at a beautiful spot to rest and have lunch. Immersed in this forest, we will continue the journey until we reach the cozy refuge in the heart of the jungle. A wonderful opportunity to sleep while listening to the sounds of nature.

Day 2:

The second day starts with a hearty breakfast, followed by a route of about 10 km through the Los Planes area, one of the purest and oldest parts of the park. As we explore this environment, sometimes we have the chance to track animal footprints and observe signs of predators like pumas, jaguars, and other creatures that inhabit the most remote areas of Corcovado. During the hike, you’ll reach the spectacular Los Planes Waterfall, a magical place where you can enjoy a well-deserved dip in its refreshing waters. Surrounded by the lush vegetation of the forest, this will be the perfect moment to relax and admire the natural beauty of the area before finishing the tour. We will have our last lunch at Doña Ana’s kitchen before returning by 4×4 to Bahía Drake around 12:00-1 pm. The main reason we love this tour is for its authenticity and unpredictability. You will have the opportunity to learn about the interaction between prey and predators, even if it’s just by hearing or feeling them—it’s something truly magical.

What to expect from this tour?

  • It’s an excursion for those who want to be more in touch with nature and get away from the tourist crowds.
  • The tour focuses on appreciating nature in its purest form, so animal sightings are unpredictable.
  • During the rainy season, there’s a lot of mud, river crossings, and obstacles on the trails, with ups and downs.

Day 1:

This tour begins in a 4×4 from our office in the center of Bahía Drake at 6 am, heading to the Los Planes station.
We start the adventure with an initial walk to Don Alfredo’s house, our jungle guardian, where we share a coffee and his unique story… We continue our journey through the majesty of the primary forest located between the sectors of Los Planes and San Pedrillo, one of the most remote and wild areas you can see in Costa Rica. We will walk about 20 km in total on this first day.

On this excursion, you’ll feel as though you are lost in the middle of nowhere, constantly watched by animals, with no other tourists in sight, surrounded by lush vegetation, crossing rivers and streams, fallen trees, and always feeling the presence of nature. The goal of this walk is to disconnect the mind and perceive the surroundings through all your senses, appreciating the magnitude of an ancient forest.
At the end of our adventure, we will arrive at the refuge where we will spend the night in the heart of the forest, with the privilege of waking up to the sounds of the jungle.

Day 2:

The second day starts with a hearty breakfast, followed by a route of approximately 10 km surrounded by forest. As we explore this environment, sometimes we have the opportunity to track animal footprints and observe signs of predators like pumas, jaguars, and other animals that inhabit the most remote areas of Corcovado.

OVERNIGHT SIRENA AND SAN PEDRILLO

Overnight tour: 2 days and 1 night

Day 1:

The tour starts at 6:00 am at the main beach of Bahía Drake, Playa Colorada. We take the boat to Sirena Station, a trip that lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. We disembark at Sirena Beach, where we will put on our shoes to begin the first hike.

On this trail, the paths are short, well-defined, and flat. The goal of this part of the tour is to interact with the group and try to see as many animals as possible, as in the Sirena area, animals are more accustomed to humans due to the large number of tourists who visit this station every day. The most common animals to see are small mammals such as monkeys, coatis, agoutis, and others.

This hike ends at noon, when we take the boat to the San Pedrillo sector. The boat trip between Sirena and San Pedrillo takes about 45 minutes, and we disembark in the wildest area of Corcovado.

THIS IS WHERE THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! On this hike, the trails are irregular, wilder, and in a more natural environment. We begin walking to the San Pedrillo Waterfall.

The goal of this part of the tour is to experience one of the world’s only tropical rainforests, with ancient trees, forests over 3000 years old, and land inhabited by top predators. Here, the animals are more elusive and maintain their natural behavior, making them harder to spot. You will feel the power of nature, and you will feel small and watched.

In this section of the tour, the walking pace is faster, mainly to ensure we reach the station before nightfall. Once the hike is completed, we will arrive at the refuge for dinner and rest, enjoying being surrounded by nature.

Day 2:

The next day, we wake up to the sounds of the jungle, have breakfast, and recharge for the final part of the tour.

On this hike, we cover around 10 km, always visiting wild trails far from human presence. You will have the opportunity to bathe in a beautiful waterfall, and we will reach the Los Planes sector at noon where we will have lunch, and a 4×4 will be waiting to take us back to Drake.

What to expect from this tour?

  • The Sirena sector is a bit overcrowded.
  • The trails in San Pedrillo are irregular with ups and downs.
  • It’s a comprehensive tour to see contrasts, but it’s not as adventurous.
  • During the rainy season, there is a lot of mud, river crossings, and obstacles on the trails.

Full Day Adventure Corcovado

Do you want to live the wildest experience in Corcovado?

Being away from the masses, in direct contact with the jungle?

The tour begins at 6 am; we pick you up in a 4×4 at your hotel in Bahía Drake (if it’s near the center). After a 40-minute journey, we reach the Los Planes station, where the adventure starts.

This approximately 18 km hike takes you through wild and natural areas of the Corcovado biological corridor, allowing you to appreciate the vastness of a true jungle with a millennial forest spanning over 3000 years. Along the way, you’ll encounter an impressive waterfall and cross rivers where you can cool off. The trails include uphill and downhill sections, as well as flat parts with mud during the rainy season. Consider your physical condition for the entire journey.

The focus of this tour is to engage all your senses for a unique experience that will linger in your memory. Our goal is not the easy spotting of animals, although you’ll encounter them on the path. They inhabit their natural environment, but their observation can be challenging due to dense vegetation. This area, considered the most intense on the planet, offers a unique experience where nature unfolds in all its splendor, turning every step into an unforgettable adventure.

CORCOVADO PARK TOUR
TWO NIGHTS

This option is ideal for exploring the main stations of the park, observing its contrasts and different ecosystems.

On the first day, we depart from the main beach of Bahía Drake at 6:00 am, taking a boat to the Sirena Station, where we will spend a day and a half. Once we disembark at Sirena Beach, we will check in at the station and begin the tour. We will start with a morning hike through the station’s trails, aiming to observe as many animals as possible until noon. Then, we will return to the station for our first lunch and rest a bit while the heat subsides, before continuing the hike in the afternoon. This last hike of the day will take us until sunset, and we will return to the station for dinner and rest. It’s important to note that night hikes are not allowed in Corcovado.

Second day

On the following day, we start early with a short hike at sunrise. Afterward, we return to the station for a hearty breakfast to recharge and continue. Then, we will take a hike until lunchtime, after which we will say goodbye to the Sirena Station. At noon, we will take the boat that will take us to the next part of the tour: San Pedrillo Station.

The boat departs from Sirena Beach and arrives at San Pedrillo Beach, where the adventure part of the tour begins. From here, the dynamic of the tour changes completely. We will hike from the beach to the refuge, where we will spend the night. This hike takes us deep into Corcovado’s primary forest, walking on pristine and uneven trails, with ascents and descents, fallen trees, and streams. This allows us to immerse ourselves fully in the jungle. Upon reaching the refuge, located in the heart of the forest between San Pedrillo and Los Planes, guests can enjoy a delicious dinner and, if desired, take a shower.

Third day

The third day begins with a hearty breakfast at the refuge before embarking on an adventurous hike through the Los Planes area. On this day, we will visit a beautiful waterfall, perfect for a refreshing dip, before reaching the village of Los Planes for the last lunch. After lunch, a 4×4 taxi will pick us up and take us back to the village.

It’s important to highlight that the portion of the tour in San Pedrillo and the second day in Los Planes focuses primarily on exploring and connecting with the primary forest, rather than animal observation. This is because in these wilder areas, wildlife sightings are far more unpredictable than in Sirena. During this part of the tour, the goal is to walk through the forest and learn to interpret it with all your senses, not just your sight.

What to expect from the tour?

This tour is ideal for photography and experiencing a bit of everything. You should know that the Sirena area is the most crowded part of the park, and the main objective here is animal observation. This is not an adventure tour, nor does it involve long hikes; rather, the walks are short and take place in flat, easy-to-navigate terrain.

The San Pedrillo section is more focused on observing and learning about the forest. Here, the tour becomes more of an adventure, as the trails are more uneven. At times, you’ll need to climb with a rope and may slip in the mud (if it’s the rainy season), cross rivers, and venture into the wilder and more pristine areas of the primary forest.
