This is a common question from travelers who want to take a tour of Corcovado National Park, as opinions online can often be confusing.
The main difference between Sirena and San Pedrillo lies in the type of forest and the experience they offer. Sirena has a secondary forest that is only 47 years old and has become very commercialized, making the animals more accustomed to humans and the wildlife observation more predictable. While it is easier to see animals here, they have lost some of their natural behavior due to constant human contact.
In contrast, San Pedrillo offers a more authentic and wild experience with a primary forest over 3000 years old. Here, the animals are more elusive due to the presence of large predators such as pumas and jaguars, making the experience more exciting and natural. The trails are more solitary, allowing you to feel truly immersed in the jungle. Additionally, in San Pedrillo, you can enjoy pristine beaches, waterfalls, and an ancient forest, all in a completely untouched environment.
Our Corcovado excursions focus on the experience of being in highly natural environments, with long hikes on as solitary trails as possible. Therefore, we always say that what makes the difference in the Overnight tour is the experience. Spending two days in nature, sleeping in a cozy shelter in the heart of the jungle, surrounded by nature and far away from tourists – it’s not just about what you see, but what you will live through if you dare to embrace the adventure!
This is a question we get a lot from travelers before and after booking, but we like to keep it a bit mysterious, as we want you to be surprised. However, we will give you some details: it’s a warm place, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature, simple and cozy, where the nights are illuminated by the moon and stars.
It’s the best place to sleep if you’re looking for a real connection with nature. We do not sleep at Sirena Station, which has become too overcrowded; instead, we stay between San Pedrillo and Los Planes, in the heart of the jungle.
All our tours start from BahÃa Drake. We do NOT operate from Sierpe or Puerto Jiménez. Tours departing from these locations to Corcovado are usually more expensive, more commercial, and do not offer the experience we aim for: immersing ourselves in the jungle and being enveloped by the most unique places in Corcovado.
If you’re located in Sierpe, we recommend taking the boat to Drake, costing $20 per person and taking about 50 minutes. You can start your adventure to Drake with a beautiful boat ride.
In the Osa Peninsula area, we have tropical rainforest, which makes the vegetation lush, and we have nearly 7 months of rainfall. Both seasons are beautiful, but we will highlight the differences in case you’re unsure about which to choose for your visit to Corcovado National Park and the BahÃa Drake area.
- Dry Season: January to March – The trails are dry, the hike is easier, but it is very hot. It is easier to see tapirs.
- Rainy Season: May to November – The trails are more challenging due to the mud, it’s much cooler, and the tour becomes an adventure without a doubt. It is easier to see amphibians and reptiles. From
- July to September, the southern humpback whales visit us (they are more active and easier to spot), and from December to April, the northern humpback whales.
